专家称疫情期间癌症晚期诊断可能会降低生存率，增加治疗成本。

专家表示，由于Covid-19疫情的影响，肺癌的晚期诊断最终将导致生存年限减少、生产力下降以及治疗成本增加。他们还指出，对肺癌患者的真正影响只能在几年后才能看到，因为患者往往倾向于在晚期阶段才就诊。
马来西亚的Covid-19疫情在晚期诊断癌症方面起到了重要作用，因为公共卫生保健设施被迫重新部署资源，包括医护人员和医院床位，以治疗冠状病毒患者，这是马来西亚肺癌网络副总裁、临床肿瘤学家Dr Tho Lye Mun所说的。
“门诊预约已被取消。需要转诊到其他医院的择期手术被推迟，而现有的肿瘤科单位也面临很大的压力，”Dr Tho在上周的虚拟媒体论坛“不让任何患者掉队：Covid-19期间改善马来西亚肺癌护理”中提到。
“因此，尚未被诊断的病例推迟了进行活检和诊断扫描的时间，”他在由马来西亚国家癌症学会（NCSM）组织的论坛上补充道。
与此同时，Dr Tho还指出，癌症患者或表现出癌症症状的患者可能不愿意就医，因为他们担心在医院环境中感染冠状病毒。
Dr Tho还强调，每五年发布的全国癌症患者登记（NCPR）报告可能需要“再过几年”才能反映Covid-19对癌症患者的影响。
“根据个人经验，我认为，现在可能有更多的患者向我们就诊，而且他们的疾病比Covid-19前更晚期，”他补充说。
他还提到，肺癌患者的五年生存率只有11%，而前列腺癌的生存率为73%，乳腺癌的生存率为67%。
